  • The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) has given Norway’s Flumill green light to build a tidal power pilot outside Tromsø.
  • Flumill plans to install the pilot, catch the natural flow of water at Rystraumen - a tidal current in the fjord dividing the island Kvaløya from the mainland. The plant will consist of Flumill’s helical turbines, and will have a total installed capacity of up to 5 MW.

In a statement, NVE says the pilot will ‘provide valuable knowledge and experience of international importance in the technology development of tidal power’.
